With the oncoming of October, now is the perfect time for pumpkin carving, trick-or-treating and Halloween movie marathons. These classic Halloween films featured on the list are not only beloved but also use interesting and compelling homes as their settings. We ran down through a few favorites and the “boo-tiful” houses featured to get you in the festive Halloween spirit!

4 Ocean Avenue, Salem, MA 01970

The 1993 cult classic about a trio of witches is understandably one of the most well known Halloween movies and wickedly charming.The movie, filmed around Salem, Massachusetts uses real life homes and historical destinations around the town. 4 Ocean Avenue served as the fictional home for two of the characters, Dan and Max. In real-life, this quaint colonial style 3 bedroom home is steps away from the water and was built back in the late 1800’s.

This classic movie about a young girl who becomes possessed by demons, was filmed around Washington D.C. The McNeil House, as it’s become known as, used the exterior of the house for many of the shots. An extra wing was added on the house to make it appear larger in the film. Of particular interest are the iconic stairs which were used in the film in a scene that will have your head spinning. The 3 bedroom house, built in 1950 is “terrifyingly” beautiful.

The Stanley

While not exactly a house, this famous hotel close to the Rocky Mountains, was used as the primary residence by the film’s characters. The historic hotel, built in 1909 had rumors of hauntings and eerie occurrences prior to the book or film being created. The Stanley is proud of its’ history and hosts daily walking tours for guests and visitors to get the full spooky experience.
